Reggae

Reggae is a style of music which was originated in the late 1960s in Jamaica. Reggae music denotes modern style pop music in Jamaica.

The lion of Judah was also one of the titles of the Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie and was depicted on the flag of Ethiopia from 1897-1974. Due to its association with Selassie, it continues to be an important symbol among members of the Rastafari movement

 

 The Lion in reggae means; is the lion of Judah, which is a title of the Ethiopian Emperor Selassie and this is used due to it's association with Selassie, creating an important symbol amongst the Rastafarian movement.

"Rastafarian" is an Abrahamic religion, which is classed as a social movement and a religious movement, which was developed in Jamaica.

The symbol they use is to represent peace, which is correlated into the Rastafarian religion.

Started from Jamaican folk music - back to slavery, talk about experiences in slavery.

From that involved into Caribbean mento. - Acoustic, sung by old people (mainly). - Used ahorns, shakers, guitars. This developed into sska, where they decided to change the beat.

Ska upbeat and fast, because they liked to dance to it, which slowly developed into rock ready, a style slower that ska

Now it's rock steady. precursor before reggae. (Slower than ska) - this came about 1966

After rock steady came reggae.

Reggae, being slow but fast beats following the Jamaican style of music. Which also brought across lovers rock style.

"lovers rock", very slow and romantic. - Sub genres to get to reggae. - this came about the late 1960s.

Big speakers, a lot used to travel sound far in the towns and they'd charge people to listen to their music. (Massive Sound system)

Dance hall music - Elephant man,  music is more modern and created to represent Jamaican music into mainstream popular music.

- taking elements from pop.

Than rose Moldovans, bashments, calypsos

 

 

Moldovan folk - was founded in 1949 and came from all around the , Bashment - was developed in 1979 and came from Jamacia, Calypsos - was founded in the early 19th century, and came from Trinidad. Mento music - is a style of folk music which arouse from ska and reggae, which is acoustic, it came around the late 19th century.

 

 

Peter Tosh - He is a Jamaican reggae musician who was born in 19 October 1944, who worked amongst the other musicians such as Bob Marley and Bunny Wailer. He was a successful artist and a promoter of Rastafarian. He passed on the 11th September 1987
